A Cat's Prayer

I ask for the privilege of not being born ... not to be born until you can assure me of a home and a master to protect me, and the right to live as long as I am physically able to enjoy life ... not to be born until my body is precious and men have ceased to exploit it because it is cheap and plentiful.

America's society is becoming a convenient throw-away society, a society which is throwing irresponsibility on responsibile ones to pick up and clean up the mess they create and leave behind, having so little regard for life and death. I'm furious. As a former volunteer worker in my local shelter, and currently maintaining a feral cat colony and fostering cats and dogs in my home, I am very familiar with these abandoned little fellows' misery and pain. If THIS IMAGE doesn't move you to be a responsibile human being, then you simply ARE NOT human.

For years our government had repeatedly turned down the suggestion of promoting spay/neuter on United States postage stamps. August 22, 2001, the United States Postal Service issued the proposed Spay/Neuter Your Pet Stamp as part of its US Stamp Program for 2002; not as one stamp but as TWO. The Neuter Your Pet Stamp depicts a dog while the Spay Your Pet Stamp depicts a cat. The artwork, high quality photographs guaranteed to wrench even the hardest of hearts, was unveiled to the public on October 17th, 2001.

The First Day of Issue took place on September 20, 2002 in Denver at the American Humane Association's 125th celebratory Annual Conference.
